History of the The Feast at Mōkapu Lūʻau
Allow us to take you on a historical journey of our Polynesian ancestors arriving to Maui and settling in our ahupua’a (land division) while we give insight and life to our Hawaiian values that focus on the love of, connection to, and kuleana (responsibility) to the land.
The Feast at Mōkapu Lūʻau was curated by Tihati Productions in collaboration with the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, Kumu Hula and respected Polynesian cultural experts. Together, we share both traditional stories and original compositions that tell of the uniqueness of the surrounding area of the resort and what makes it so special.
The first act shares the story of ancient ties between our Hawaii and the South Pacific, with an emphasis on Tahiti and the brilliance of ancient navigation, bridging to the specific place of Honuaʻula.

The second act honors the great chiefs of Maui; Piʻilani and the demi god, Maui. A traditional song, “Mele o Kahoʻolawe” is shared with the story of how courageous Maui families endeavored to stop the bombing that once was conducted on the precious island of Kahoʻolawe that can be seen in the distance.

The third act is a light-hearted segment sharing the stories of the Paniolo (Hawaiian cowboys) that still perpetuate this lifestyle in Maui. A medley of songs to celebrate Maui is shared through hula and the story concludes with a spectacular siva afi or fire knife dance of Samoa.
